March 9, 2010 - Mission Celebration 2010 - When we allow our hearts to truly become aware of the pain and suffering in the world around us, we begin to see those in our communities, in all areas of our nation, and around the globe who are marginalized from the life God created for them due to disaster, war, famine, oppression, extreme poverty, and broken relationships. It is with great joy and celebration that we come together as a congregation to explore how we are called to bring the “amazing grace” of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, to a broken and hurting world. Please join with those who have come to share their stories of transformation and this “Amazing Grace” through the ministries of Christ’s church to the world during the 2010 Mission Celebration. In an environment where humanitarian need is so great, the United Methodist Church can be in its purest form. Our denomination is structured to bring healing to the ills brought on by humanity and to bring hope through Christ Jesus to a people clinging to the present and reaching for the future. Together we will explore how our resources, visions, opportunities, and prayers can bring about a change in the present that will lead to a lasting peace and promise for the future. We welcome you to the Sudan Summit, where we all will share in the experience of “Amazing Grace.” - Read More February 22, 2010 - Sudan Summit - In 2005, a 23 year civil war between northern and southern Sudan came to an end as the Comprehensive Peace Agreement was signed between the Government of Sudan and the Sudanese Peoples Liberation Army. As peace settled back over the homeland of the thousands who had fled during the longest civil war in African history, men, women, and children returned to their homeland in southern Sudan, only to find the infrastructure destroyed and resources unavailable to enable them to begin their lives anew. The population continues to mushroom, while development and sustainability are strangers in a time of desperation. Casualties of war still come... in the form of malnutrition and disease... poverty in its rawest form is a mirror of what humanity can impose on humanity when Christ is replaced by greed and hate.
