Forever Young Ministries
“FOREVER YOUNG” MINISTRIES First Broad Street United Methodist Church, whose mission is Glorifying God through knowing Christ and making Him known, offers a vibrant ministry for “Forever Young” adults between the ages of 55-105. We enjoy the blessing of increasing numbers of older adults and endeavor to challenge and nurture this age group through a variety of intentional ministries, by, with and for, older adults, that meet their spiritual, physical, social and educational needs. “FOREVER YOUNG” COUNCIL is the governing body of all ministries. Chaired by Jack and Nancy Weikel, meetings are held quarterly and are open to anyone.
“FOREVER YOUNG” FELLOWSHIP, chaired by Nancy Weikel, meets every 4th Tuesday, except there will be no Fellowship in November and we'll meet on the third Tuesday in December (the 18th) from 11 AM-1 PM Includes fellowship with a meal, a devotional, music, and a 20 minute program.
LIVE WIRES is the tele-conferencing Sunday school class for those who no longer can come to church and Sunday school. Dialing a 1-800 telephone number, all participants are connected by phone and are able to interact with the teacher and other class participants. Jane Schulz coordinates this ministry.
FBS GOLFERS is open to anyone who enjoys golf- no matter one’s age or gender. Co-chaired by Max Hill and Jim Hutchins, golf outings are planned each month from April- October and transportation is often provided by the church.
LUNCH BUNCH is for widows, widowers, and singles who fellowship together every 3rd Friday at regional restaurants. Transportation is often provided by the church. Jack Greene and Irene Osborne co-chair this ministry.
FBS Health and Wellness- Joy Eastridge, our Parish Nurse provides seminars of interest 1 hour before each Forever Young Fellowship.
FBS TRAVELERS - This is a fabulous opportunity to experience fun fellowship on organized affordable trips from 1 day to week- long in length. Peggy Davis provides leadership to this activity.
HOME VISITATION is simply being a caring friend to someone who no longer can come to church. A monthly visit, call, or card is all that is expected. Irene Osborne chairs this ministry and welcomes your help.
JUBILATION is a Holston conference sponsored weekend for the “Forever Young” age group filled with fun, inspiration & education. Date- TBA
SENIOR SPIRITUALITY consists of short term Bible Studies and retreats designed to challenge continued spiritual growth in older adults. GRIEF RECOVERY REACH OUT, a collaborative initiative with FBS, Hamlett Dobson Funeral Home, Adventa Hospice and Ann VandeVate, a grief counselor, is for those dealing with issues associated with grief from the death of a loved one. A six week session begins on Tuesday, March 4th . Martha Rector is the chair person.
OVER 70 LUNCHEON, chaired by Sharon Bounds, is a special event where members who are 70+ years of age are celebrated and honored with a special time of fun fellowship, food, entertainment, inspiration & appreciation.
SILVER BELLS ring hand bells every Monday from 12:30-1:30 pm and participate in worship services and various events throughout the year.
SOUNDS OF JOY sing together every Monday from 1:30-2:30 pm and sing in worship services and various events throughout the year.
FOREVER YOUNG VOLUNTEERS consist of a variety of service projects (landscaping at the Bloomingdale retreat Center, sponsoring children to Buffalo Mountain Camp, collecting food for the food ministry, participating in Vacation Bible School, reading to elementary students and serving in various capacities for the Parent Days Out). |
