NEWS FROM THE OFFICE In conjunction with FBS Children’s Ministries and the Parish Nurse Ministry, the Child Care Center will be hosting our first Safety Rodeo on Wednesday, May 7 from 4 – 7 p.m. Activities will take place in the Woodyard gym, outside on Church Circle, and outside on the Watauga Street side of the building. We will be focusing on dental health, hand washing, skateboard safety, bike safety, sun safety, fire safety, and health precautions. “Happy Bear” from the Children’s Advocacy Center will be here, as well as a puppet show depicting God’s love for us. The Fire Department will bring a fire truck and the house that simulates a home fire. The children will take home toothbrushes, toothpaste, sunscreen, sunglasses, and all kinds of neat things. The Kingsport Police Department will be on hand to do car seat safety checks. This will take place on the Church Circle side of the building. If you want to have your car seat inspected, drive around to that side of the building and they will check your seat installation. This will be a great time of learning and fun for parents, teachers, and children and we are looking forward to May 7!! If you are interested in paying your child care tuition by online banking, please call or email Sue Ann Greene (224-1509 or sgreene@fbsumc.org) This is a great way to take “remembering to pay the bill” out of your hands and make your life a little easier. Sue Ann can provide you with the information you need to set up a payment plan with your bank. We encourage everyone to look in to this convenient option. We are sad to announce that Ms. Jennifer Kilgore, lead teacher in the Young Toddlers class, will be leaving us, effective May 9. She has been a great addition to our staff and we will miss her and wish her luck as she leaves. Karen Rines will assume that position on Monday, May 12. Karen has been serving in our Pre K after school class and we are delighted to have her join us fulltime!
CLASSROOM NEWS Bouncing Bunnies The Bouncing Bunnies have been enjoying the nice warm weather! The Bunnies had a great time celebrating Hannah’s first birthday last month! Brookelynn is saying more words and walking with help. Hannah is taking a few steps and Riley is eating table food. Timothy has started crawling while he was away on this vacation – welcome back, Timothy. We missed you! Miranda is trying very hard to sit up and Aidan sits alone in the activity chair and plays with the toys. Kenadee is getting to know her new friends and loves to watch the mobile. The Bouncing Bunnies would like to wish all the moms a Happy Mother’s Day! Mrs. Linda, Mrs. Doris, Ms. Melinda, Mrs. Barbara The Ladybugs The month of April was a busy one for the Ladybugs. We celebrated Earth Day with a whole week full of Earth Day activities. We have also had April showers, but now May is here and we are ready for May flowers! This month we will be getting ready for Mother’s Day, so we will be doing lots of activities. Mothers are special people – blessings from heaven. I wish each and every mother a Happy Mother’s Day. I pray that God will bless each of you during the month of May and may you find joy in watching your children as they grow and learn new things. Ms. Jennifer, Ms. Michelle, Ms. Bethany, Mrs. Agnes Butterflies We would like thank Ayden’s mom for sharing his birthday with us. This month Tiara turns 2 and will also be sharing her birthday with us. Thomas turns 2 on June 1 and will be having a birthday party at Eastman Cabins on May 31. Parents, just a reminder we will be having water play very soon, so please bring the following items ASAP, please: Sunscreen, beach towel, squirt bottle, Little Swimmers diapers, bathing suit/trunks, and water shoes. Thank you so much! The children have really enjoyed going on walks and playing outside on the playground. We look forward to more pretty and sunny days to come. We will be closed on May 26th for Memorial Day. God bless, Ms. Heather, Ms. April, Ms. Kim, Mrs. Agnes Dancing Ducks The month of April has come and gone so quickly! The Dancing Ducks experienced spring at its best. They saw wind, rain, cold, frost, and now they see blooms, buds, green leaves, Easter eggs, and the beginnings of flowers. They learned about Passover. They saw baby Moses and ate coconut macaroons. We changed our table and seating arrangement. We welcome Bryce Pulitzer from New Orleans and Brycen Hartgrove from Kingsport. We welcome Emmett back from Michigan – he misses his grandma! Last week, we began having manicures, pedicures, and going to the beauty shop. Our best clients are Ale, Jeana, Allison, Hannah, and Telucia. Nehamiah’s new best friend is Brycen. Bryce looks similar to Emmett so before Bryce had his picture on the table, he would always so sit in Emmett’s seat! Everyday, Eli sings the ABC’s at lunch before he’s served. Congratulations to Emmett and Jeana on joining the “potty club.” They are doing great! Ms. Tonia, Mrs. Lisa, Ms. Hannah, Ms. Stephanie, Ms. Agnes
Busy Bumblebees The month of April found the Busy Bumblebees talking about zoo animals, farm animals, and our pets. The boys and girls stayed busy painting, cutting with scissors, practicing our letters and recognizing names. The children were very interested in learning about the five senses – through a taste test, hearing different sounds, and creating a texture collage. The Busy Bumblebees would like to wish Caine and his mother the best of luck and we will miss them. The children are very excited about music class every Wednesday with Rev. Margaret Deans. We thank Margaret for her dedication! We look forward to making surprises for our mothers, and talking about different insects. Our Trike-a-Thon will be May 9 and all proceeds go to St. Jude. Remember to bring swim wear for outdoor water play. We look forward to a “splishety splashety” summer! Mrs. Jennifer, Mrs. Missy, Ms. Melinda, Mrs. Kim Marching Ants April was a blast! The Marching Ants enjoyed kite making, painting, and coloring. We also combined the class with the other pre k classes. So again it was a joy to be with old friends. Kindergarten registration was a big step for the children. We talked about what kindergarten would be like, and what would take place. “My First Day of Kindergarten” was a favorite book. With the warmer weather, we have enjoyed playing outside. Please bring a change of clothes and sunscreen. We’re looking forward to May! Mrs. Karen, Ms. Tiffany
Angels We are looking forward to a great month of May. We have been exploring potting soil and discussing how to take care of plants. The Angels enjoy painting and we have our room filled with flowers they have made. We have enjoyed making animal bag puppets, and have little skits to show off our work. We have created caterpillars, butterflies, raccoons, and ducks. We have been working with our counting eggs, our scissor skills, and table manners. Children learn basic skills by using all their senses. We are planning for our St. Jude Trike-a-Thon on May 9. Children may bring their bikes if they like. We will be riding in the gym. Ms. Bettie, Ms. Pat, and all the Angels welcome our new Angel, Kimberly. Ms. Bettie and Ms. Pat Bouncing Bears The Bouncing Bears are busy playing and dong lots of fun “kid things”. We have focused on spring time and the changes we see around us. We have learned words like petals, stems, leaves, nectar, larva, chrysalis, pupa, and more. We have planted tomatoes and are waiting and watching for growth. We are working on 3 and 4 letter words to sound out and spell – cat, dog, boy, girl, tree, ball, Mom, and Dad. We are getting very excited about our St. Jude Trike-a-Thon. Mrs. Debbie has challenged us to raise the most we can. She has special plans for us! Music and chapel continue to be fun with new songs and stories each week. Rachel has brought caterpillars which are now making cocoons and we are so excited to watch this metamorphosis take place! We have watched the process from egg to worm or larva to pupa to chrysalis to butterfly. We hope ours make it to this final stage. The boys have caught large beetles on the playground and are planning to bring some home – HA HA! They have learned the largest butterfly is the Bird Wing and has a 12 inch wing span. We will continue our study on the Walking stick, the wandering leaf ants, termites, and step beetles. Bugs are fun! The children love this stage! If you find something interesting, bring it in. Books are welcome, too. Don’t forget to get sponsors for the Trike-a-Thon on Friday, May 9th. Mrs. Debbie, Mrs. Barbara Big Kids The Big Kids have been talking about families and relationships. A special project (a surprise!) has kept us focused all week. The boys and girls have done a wonderful job. We have brainstormed ideas for enhancing our gifts, and we have written Haikus. Next week, we will complete our work and give the surprises to our honorees. I have been very pleased at the “stick-to-it-ive-ness” of young students who very often have short attention spans. Lots of time has been spent in our make-believe restaurant and we have continued work on basketball skills. Whether or not we get to go outside, the recreational part of our day is very satisfying. Students in the Big Kids program are very active and talented. Thank you for your support every week. Ms. Marcy, Mr. Brett |
